Highlanders Compete in 16th Annual Asics-Winthrop Cross Country Invitational

Rock Hill, SC -- The Highlanders competed at the 16th annual Asics-Winthrop Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning. Radford men placed ninth and the women placed eighth. High Point's men and Charlotte's women took the university division team titles.

The men's college division title was captured by Virginia Intermont while Shawnee State won the women's title.

Defending Big South Conference champion, High Point, finished the race with 37 points as four Panthers finished in the top 10. Clemson took second with 55 points and had the individual men's champion as Matt Clark who covered the 8K distance in 24:36.

It was a close race between the women as Charlotte slid past Appalachian State 52-57 for the team title. High Point's Jemissa Hess won the women's individual title with a 5K time of 17:54.

Radford's Mike Meehan finished 25th clocking a time of 25:54. Joel Hanlon and Sean Bossman ran the 8K with times of 26:32 and 26:45 respectively.

Maria Geary finished 28th in the 5K for the Highlanders running a time of 19:48. RU's Shannon Brown was close behind running the race in twenty minutes and seven seconds.

The Highlanders cross country team will travel to Blacksburg October, 9 to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational at 9 a.m.
