The boys 1000 meter race at the Group AAA State Meet this year could be a great race even without including defending state champion Anthony Kostelac of Albemarle. There are three runners right in Group AAA who currently have times at 2:30 or faster including Lee-Davis junior Cody Snyder, who followed up his early season US #1 time at CNU last month with a VA #12 all-time performance of 2:29.44 at the New York Armory this past weekend.

After running in the shadows of Atlee star Ben Dejarnette within his district the past two years, Snyder (pictured right by Frank Locascio) appears to be ready to step into the limelight and compete for championships and records in his junior and senior year. A strong finish to the cross country season with an All-State top 15 finish has helped the middle distance runner into one of the state's top performers on the track this winter.
