Spotswood has turned heads week in and week out here in Virginia for how well the ladies have been running. They have been running so well that they have continued to hold onto the VA #3 spot in our power rankings ahead of the Class 4 (Blacksburg) and Class 5 (Ocean Lakes) Team Champions.
This Saturday they put on a show down in Blacksburg and scored a low 49 points to beat out Abingdon who were 19 points behind them.
Simply put, they are really good right now but the scary thing is they could be getting even better and this could just be the start of the Spotswood era.
Next year they will lose their 1-2 punch from the Dickel twins (Marika and Ashland) but they are returning everyone else from their team (3-7) and they then will return them again the next year too and four of them will even return another year!
Out of Spotswood's scoring seven, they were senior, senior, freshman, sophomore, freshman, freshman, and freshman. In that order.
The best thing for them though is they will have competition moving forward as 15 of the top 20 finishers from Class 3 States return again next year and their closest competition Abingdon has quite a few returners as well. This competition should help push Spotswood to stay on top of their game if they want to make a back-to-back title run.
