Future Stars Spotlight: South County's Julia Wallace

South County has been known for their strength in the 4x4 and 4x2 relays over the past decade and it looks like that strength is going to continue for the foreseeable future. Though they do have quite a few upperclassmen stars, we want to highlight one underclassman and that is sophomore Julia Wallace.

Check out Julia Wallace's Athlete Profile

We are barely into the indoor season but times are already fast for Julia Wallace. She opened her sophomore campaign this past weekend at the Virginia Beast Invitational running 40.33 for the 300m dash to take home the gold medal against solid competition including four girls under 41 seconds.

That time alone as a sophomore is something to turn heads but when you dig deeper on her profile you see there is quite a bit more to come. For example, she won the Nike Outdoor Nationals Emerging Elite 400m last year running 54.28 on the season. Add in her 24.61 in the 200 and you see how she is the real deal.

"As a sophomore, Julia shows a maturity and poise far beyond her years. She approaches each race with unwavering focus and a growth mindset, making steady improvements every time she steps on the track. If this is where she is now, we can't imagine where she'll be by the time she graduates." - South County Coach Maurice Hutton

Her times are fast but running fast times when it matters most is what you really should look at. In her biggest races last year, remember as a freshmen, she performed very well finishing 5th in the 300 at States indoors and 4th in the 400 at States outdoors.

One of the best things she has going for her though is having the teammates and team that she has. With them she has training partners who are state champions and state leaders. Those girls push her to be better each day and soon enough, if not already, she is going to be pushing them too.

Indoor track season is a quick one and so is Julia Wallace.
