It is easy to just look at the leaderboard and forget about all the other elite athletes in Virginia who might not be leading an event. That is definitely the case with the boys pole vault where St. Chris' Victor Olesen ranks VA and US #1 in the event. One spot back though, is super sophomore Xavier Curry.
Curry, only a sophomore at Varina, has already cleared 15-8 this season, good enough for VA #2 and VA #14 all-time. He is currently US #5 for sophomores as well.
Though his mark of 15-8 is quite impressive, his consistency is arguably even more impressive. This season he has cleared 15-0 or higher four times. Only three boys have done the same feat this season.
We are excited to see what is in store for him as we enter the post-season. If he is able to clear 16' this season he will jump up into the top 10 all-time for the state.
