One of the biggest players in the 2025 Super Bowl was Philadelphia's Josh Sweat who played so well he even made the case for being the game's MVP. Sweat tallied up six tackles and 2.5 sacks on a night that was defined by defense.
Before the big game though, Sweat just like many other football stars, competed in track & field.
Back in 2014 there were tons of stars in Virginia Track & Field at the VHSL Class 6 State Championships. You had Noah Lyles in the 100, Grant Holloway in the 110H, and many more. One star though was over on the throws field launching the discus 182' and that was Oscar Smith's Josh Sweat.
Sweat would go on to win the Class 6 State title in the discus that year and still ranks to this day inside the top 15 all-time for discus in VA.
There are plenty of stories about wide receivers or running backs or even defensive backs who ran track but let's not forget the throwers who not only have power but speed as well. Sweat certainly has both.
