The State Meet Quintuple, Something You Can Only Find In VA

To our count, there is only one state in the country that does not follow the standard NFHS rule for event limits and that is Virginia. In Virginia you are allowed three running events and unlimited field events and that means some fun state track meets.

Now to most this may seem unconventional but in Virginia it is something most of the state cherishes... unless you're on the losing side of course.

There have been historic state meets from the likes of Rachel Butler, Felecia Majors, or even Grant Holloway who all entered in five or more events. In almost all cases the runners ran three events and then entered in multiple field events ranging from the long jump to even the pole vault. It is just fun to watch how good these athletes really are.

This past week there were some more star athletes taking over the state meets not only by the sheer amount of events they were in but sometimes the odd grouping of events too.

Take for example Jayden Curry (Bruton) who did four events at the Class 2 state meet. He won the Mile, finished third in the 1K, finished seventh in the 300, and won the high jump! Now that is a one-of-a-kind state meet.

You also have more common event combos like Lilly Ver Beek (James River) who won the 55m dash, won the long jump, finished second in the 55m hurdles, finished third in the triple jump, and finished fifth in the 300m dash.

If you thought that was impressive, check out Rylee Coates' state meet. At the Class 1 state meet Coates scored a monster 58 points herself. She won the 55, 55H, high jump, long jump, and pole vault while finishing in second in the 300m dash.

Those are just some of the impressive state meet quadruples, quintuples, and sextuples you will see any given year at the Virginia State meets.
