Athletes of the week for the week ending on April 6, 2002, are Quentin Bowens of Heritage and Keira Carlstrom of Oakton. Each athlete had outstanding performances down in Alabama at the Mobile Meet of Champions against some of the nation\'s best.
Bowens didn\'t win in Alabama, but the Seton Hall bound Heritage speedster posted two scorching times in placing 5th in the 200 and 3rd in the 400 with clockings of 22.51 and 47.43 respectively. Don\'t expect many other Virginians to top those times for the remainder of the season.
While the mile is her specialty, Oakton senior Keira Carlstrom, tried her luck at 800 meters in Alabama and she proved to have very good fortune at that distance as well. Carlstrom posted a stellar early season time of 2:16.31 to finish second overall in the race. Like Bowens, don\'t expect many if any in Virginians to top that time this season.
