Slekis scorches 18:11 5K at Disney

ORLANDO, FL - Forest Park junior Stefanie Slekis continued what has been amazing fall of cross country for her as she posted the state\'s second fastest 5K time of the season to date by winning the Disney Classic 4A girls\' race in a time of 18:11.03. Slekis won by an impressive 40 second margin and helped pace the Lady Bruins to a fourth place team finish (121 points) in Orlando.

Two other Virginia schools sent teams down to compete in Florida as well in Hermitage and Osbourn Park.

Hermitage had two strong individual performances. In the girls\' race, Hermitage senior Katie Hedley finished fourth overall with a time of 19:18.52. Meanwhile, Hermitage junior Alex Bowman ran a personal best time of 16:09.56 to finish fourth as well in the boys\' 4A race.

The Hermitage boys finished fifth overall in the team standings as they were one place ahead of sixth place Forest Park who raced without top runner Bryce Iverson (SAT testing).

Osbourn Park finished eighth in the boy\'s team standings as the Yellow Jackets were led by junior Mitch Lopacki, who just dipped under 17 minutes with a 16:58.47 clocking for 19th place. Female counterpart Emily Arena also had a solid day as she finished sixth individually for Osbourn Park in a time of 19:32.78.
