US High School Indoor All-Time 800 Meter List
1. Robby Andrews (Manalapan, NJ) 1:49.21 2009
2. Michael Granville (Bell Gardens, CA) 1:50.55 1995
3. George Kersh (Pearl, MS) 1:50.62 1987
4. John Marshall (Plainfield, NJ) 1:50.7 1981
5. Karjuan Williams (New Bern, NC) 1:50.74 2006
6. Anthony Kostelac (Albemarle, VA) 1:50.96 2010

Albemarle senior Anthony Kostelac became only the sixth US high school runner to ever break 1:51 indoors for 800 meters in his jaw-dropping Nike Indoor Nationals 1:50.96 victory today in Boston. Kostelac's time broke the meet record held by another former Central Virginia middle distance star in 2007 champion Axel Mostrag (1:51.63) of Fork Union. An incredibly fast race and talented field set Kostelac up for the historically great time as second and third place finishers recorded times among the top 10 and 15 all-time, while last year's champion Billy Ledder finished 7th and out of All-American honors. After enjoying incredible success as an anchor leg on Albemarle's national record breaking 4x800 meter relays last as a junior (split 1:51.7 yesterday on Albemarle SMR), Kostelac now can enjoy a national title and the fast time to his name individually. Girls 4x400 - Bethel girls took third place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:52.15, which ranks them VA #9 all-time!

Girls Long Jump - Manchester's Nikki Nunn earned her 2nd All-American honor of the weekend in the long jump as she follows up her NSIC runner-up 19'9' Performance on Friday with a NIN 3rd place 19'1.25" mark on Sunday. Also joining Nunn on the All-American podium from Virginia was Grassfield's Jazmen Townsend in 5th place (18'8.50").

400/200 Finals Updates: Green Run junior Monica Williams (4th, 56.17) and Great Bridge sophomore Shakeela Saunders (6th, 56.31) both earn All-American honors from the slow section of the girls 400 meter dash finals. Great Bridge High School almost had two top 6 finishers in the 400 meter dash finals as Taylor Sykes just missed All-American honors by one hundredth of a second with his 7th place time of 49.43 in the boys finals.

Another pair of Virginia girls earn All-American honors in the girls 200 meter dash finals with Great Bridge's Saunders winning the slow section and placing third overall in 24.46 for her second All-American honor on Sunday, while 60 meter dash national champion Christal Peterson of Phoebus finished 6th with a time of 24.68.

60/60H Finals Updates: Christal Peterson of Phoebus is a Nike National Champion in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.50! Virginia went 1-3 in the event with Western Branch's Keilah Tyson taking third place in a 7.53 clocking. Since both are juniors, Peterson and Tyson will be back again next year to potentially set up for a national title battle between two of Virginia's best.

Landstown senior Darrell Wesh made it a Virginia sweep of the Nike National 60 meter dash titles as roared a 6.73 winning performance! En route to the finish, Wesh was timed by a separate finishlynx camera at 6.28 for 55 meters, which now ranks him #12 all-time in Virginia high school indoor history.

Samantha Scarlett of Bethel went down on the track and was unable to finish in the finals of the girls 60 meter hurdles after entering the final round as the fourth fastest qualifier.

60/60H Prelims Updates: Through two rounds of preliminary and semifinal action this morning, the state of Virginia will be represented very well in the finals of the 60 meter dash and 60 meter hurdles later today at the Nike Indoor Nationals. In particular, there is a strong possibility that Virginia might be able to sweep the 60 dash with how strong state champions Darrell Wesh and Christal Peterson have looked today.

Darrell Wesh has rolled through his first two rounds of the 60 meter dash with the fastest time in the prelims and second fastest (6.78) in the semis for the Landstown senior. Making the final cut as the 8th and final qualifier to join Wesh is George Washingtion junior DeVaughn Benion Jr at 6.90.

The finals of the girls 60 meter dash is dominated by Virginians with three finalists including two from the same school Western Branch in Keilah Tyson (7.56) and Taranisha Taylor (7.67). AAA 55 meter state champion Christal Peterson of Phoebus has appeared to be the fastest in the field through the first two rounds was the leading qualifier out of the first round and tied for the fastest performance (7.53) in the semifinals.

Jamaican-born Samantha Scarlett of Bethel will have an opportunity to become a Nike All-American with her safe passage through two rounds of the hurdles as she enters the finals with the fourth fastest time out of eight qualifiers from the semifinals in 8.62.

Unseeded Mile/800 Updates: Unseeded sections of the 800 and mile run have been held prior to the seeded sections to be contested later this evening. Fork Union junior and VISAA state champion Wojciech Czernek had the top performance so far among Virginia distance runners on Sunday at Reggie Lewis Center as he posted a state leading time of 4:15.92 in the mile run, which is second fastest currently prior to the final two sections being run later. Also running under 4:20 with Czernek were Eastern Region standouts Drew Paisley (4:17.26) of Ocean Lakes and George Matais (4:18.35) of Western Branch.
