2009 was an abnormally great year for high school state records to be broken as a total of three new state outdoor track & field records were broken in Virginia last spring with the national record breaking 4x800 from the Albemarle boys at the Penn Relays. as well as the Blacksburg girls DMR and Bethel girls 4x400 setting new Virginia state outdoor records on the final day at the Nike Indoor Nationals.
