McDougal Adds Another Title To His Name: NCAA Southeast Regional Champion

Liberty freshman sensation, Josh McDougal, continued his amazing year as he became the first Liberty and Big South runner to win a cross country regional title this afternoon at Lake Kristi, site of the 2004 Southeast Regional NCAA Cross Country Championships.

McDougal (Fr., Peru, N.Y.), who set a new course record earlier this season at Lake Kristi for an 8k race, ran a time of 31:06.4 to pick up his seventh-consecutive victory. Evan Falat (Jr., Stockton, Calif.) placed 66th for the Flames with a time of 32:05.9, while Jason Brown (Sr., Loves Park, Ill) placed 84th in a time of 32:21.8. Andrew Ponder (Fr., Colonial Heights, Va.) ran the 10k course in a time of 32:41.3. Rounding out the top finishers for the Flames were: Clint Jackson (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Christian Nichols (So., Hilliard, Ohio) whom placed 101st (32:43.3) and 157th (34:02.9), respectively.

Leading the way for the Lady Flames was, Danielle Jordan (Fr., Medford, Ore.) as she finished 57th, running the 6k course in a time of 21:58.2. Samantha Pelletier (Sr., Wells, Maine) placed 61st with a time of 22:03.4, while Sarah Roberts (Sr., Zeiglerville, Pa.) placed 86th in a time of 22:32.5 and Melissa Blackstone (Sr., Presque Isle, Maine) ran with a time of 22:48.5 for a 100th-place finish. Rounding out the top finishers for the Lady Flames were: Carol Jefferson (Fr., Schwenksville, Pa.), Asia Ramey (So., Marengo, Ohio) and Piper Newby who placed 106th (22:57.7), 114th (23:04.8) and 122nd (23:13.1), respectively.

Overall, the men's team placed 13th with 342 points, while the women's team placed 14th with 395 points.

McDougal, and his impressive 7-0 record, will move on in search of a National Title as he will compete at the 2004 NCAA Cross Country National Championships in Terra Haute, Ind. on October 22nd.
