JMU\'s Anderson Eighth, Dukes Seventh at ECAC

BRONX, N.Y. -- Junior Nelly Anderson (Charlotte, N.C./ Cordillera Academy) placed eighth and led James Madison to a seventh-place team finish at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women\'s Cross Country Championships Saturday in Van Cortlandt Park.

Anderson completed the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 7 seconds.

La Salle graduate student Jenna Darcy won the ECAC title in a tight finish. Darcy was clocked in 17:48, while Boston College junior Laurel Burick was second in 17:50, and La Salle sophomore Rachel Papin finished third in 17:53.

La Salle took a narrow victory in the team competition with 68 points. Yale was second with 70 and Cornell third with 78. JMU finished seventh in the 15-team field.

JMU senior Cindy Dunham (Warren, Pa./Warren) was 33rd in 18:46, and junior Tiffany Cross (Rockville, Va./Atlee) placed 41st in 18:53.

Freshman Michelle Beardmore (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) finished 48th in 18:58, sophomore Dena Spickard (Marion, Va./Marion) was 66th in 19:21, senior Ashley Payne (Reston, Va./Herndon) placed 83rd in 19:58 and freshman Kelly Payne (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) was 86th in 20:13.
