Virginia Tech Track & Field Hosts First Indoor Meet of the Season

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech\'s track & field teams host the Virginia Tech Invitational starting on Friday, Jan 14 through Saturday, Jan. 15 on a 200 meter banked track inside the Rector Fieldhouse on the Tech campus.

The men\'s triple jump, women\'s pole vault and women\'s weight throw competition will begin the invite on Friday at 5 p.m. The last event on Friday is the men\'s distance medley relay at 8:40 p.m. Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday will be the women\'s high jump. The invite will conclude with the men\'s 4x400-meter relay at 4:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Men\'s and women\'s teams from Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest from the ACC are slated to compete along with South Carolina and Tennessee from the SEC. Teams from the commonwealth of Virginia will be represented by Hampton, James Madison, Radford, Richmond and Virginia Military Institute. Charleston Southern, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Georgetown, South Carolina State and St. Augustine\'s College round out the list of participating teams.

Forty-eight Virginia Tech athletes, 27 men and 21 women, are slated to compete in various running, jumping and throwing events this weekend. The Hokies began the indoor season at the Clemson Opener in December. Tech qualified four throwers to the NCAA Championships and broke four school indoor records.
