Cosby's Bradshaw Runs By Himself, Almost Wins State Title

One of the most exciting races of the week was the Class 6 Boys 1K. It was so great we actually got to see it twice!

In the first edition of the race there was a fall roughly with 600m to go. This is where Cosby's Evan Bradshaw went down.

After he went down the race opened up and it was Zachary Paredes pushing the pace. He knew that the defending champion, Henry Birge, was somewhat tired after splitting 1:52 in the 4x8 and then winning the 1600 in a meet record 4:07.

Paredes pushed the pace and had the lead at the bell but Henry Birge found yet another gear and was able to cross the line in 2:29.02 to Paredes' 2:30.60.

After the race the Cosby coaches pleading their case that interference had taken place and that their athlete should be given a re-run. The officials decided to be fair to all competitors that they would allow for a re-run roughly 30 minutes after the race.

In what was essentially a time trial, Bradshaw even split throughout and had the crowd on their feet. He ultimately would cross the line in 2:29.14, just .08 seconds away from winning the title.

Even though he didn't ultimately win, it was one of those races you will remember and an improvement on his third seed. He was also the anchor on Cosby's school record and VA #6 all-time 4x800m relay.
