Aaron Mitchell Qualifies for IC4As in Shot

Prince George, MD - Two-time defending CAA Champion William and Mary men's track and field continued its indoor season this Saturday at Maryland's Terrapin Invitational. Richmond, Georgetown, Hampton, American, Maryland-Baltimore County, Howard, Mt. St Mary's and Bowie State were among over a dozen teams which fielded athletes at the meet.

Senior Aaron Mitchell (Buffalo, NY) showed little signs of rust in his first meet of the year as he broke the IC4A qualifying mark in the shot. Mitchell threw four 52'1" in the effort, earning him runner-up honors. Fellow senior Nick Hecker-Thompson (Seattle, WA) just missed an IC4A berth, throwing for 50'0.75" for third place. In the mile, senior Bill Tarantino (Woodbridge, VA) clocked a persona-record 4:16.79, just two seconds shy of an IC4A qualification, for sixth. Sophomore Matt Warco (McMurray, PA) also had a strong effort in the race, timing a solid 4:17.44 for eighth. Junior Nathan Chubb (Doylestown, PA) hit a huge personal record in the pole vault, clearing 14'5.5" for fifth place, a career-best by over a foot.

Tribe track and field is next in action at Christopher Newport's Indoor Classic in Newport News, VA, January 28-29.
