Dave Mock Wins 3,000m

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Two-time defending CAA Champion William and Mary men's track and field competed Friday and Saturday at Christopher Newport's Indoor Classic with Virginia Commonwealth, James Madison, Hampton and Norfolk State also among the more than a dozen teams in the field.

The Tribe dominated the 3,000m, sweeping four of the top five spots. Freshman Dave Mock (Johnstown, PA) clocked an 8:34.79 for the win, a few ticks ahead of All-American Christo Landry (Falls Church, VA) who timed a 8:35.80 for runner-up honors. Sophomore Anthony Arena (Manassas, VA) claimed third (8:36.44) while 2004 CAA Rookie of the Year Keith Bechtol (Alexandria, VA) ran a 8:39.35 for fifth. Freshman Sam Rhodes (Fairfax, VA) had a solid debut in the 1,500m, clocking a 4:04.48 for fifth. In the 800m, sophomore Steve Gillard (Herndon, VA) timed a season-fast 2:00.02 for fifth.

Junior Justin Benabdallah (Natick, MA) clocked a season-fast 7.22 in the 60m as freshman Eric Baker (Montoursville, PA) continues to better his times, running a 23.52 in the 200m and 51.79 in the 400m, both season-bests. Senior Nick Hecker-Thompson (Seattle, WA) finished fifth in the shot with a throw of 46'6".

The Tribe is back in action February 5 at North Carolina's Invitational in Chapel Hill, NC.
