Virginia Tech Men Tied For No. 22 in the Nation

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech\'s men\'s track & field team tied for the No. 22nd national ranking this week with Kansas State and Nebraska according to the Men\'s Trackwire 25 poll that was released by Trackwire.com.

Arkansas remained No. 1, while Indiana moved up to the No. 2 spot. Michigan, Texas and LSU are the third, fourth and fifth ranked men\'s teams, respectively. Florida State, the only other ACC school to be ranked is No. 9. Texas A&M and Stanford round out the top 25 tied for 25th this week.

The Hokies entered the men\'s poll on Jan. 18 tied with Missouri, Purdue and Georgia for the 23rd spot. Tech then dropped to No. 25 in the last two polls but improved to No. 22 this week.

Stanford claimed the No. 1 ranking while five ACC teams made this week\'s Trackwire 25 for Women poll.

Available online since the 1997 season, the Trackwire 25 has established itself as the most widely respected and reported ranking of Division I collegiate track & field teams.

The Trackwire 25 projects a hypothetical score for the NCAA meet, factoring in injury reports and other variables supported by information gathered from coaches and NCAA-qualfying competitions across the country. This projection is generated by scoring the Dandy Dozen, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event.

Virginia Tech returns to action this weekend at their home meet, the Virginia Tech Challenge. The meet will feature 28 schools, including eight from the ACC and three from the SEC. Of the 28 schools, five of them boast nationally ranked teams.
