Allen Johnson retires after long and successful pro career

1996 Olympic gold medalist in the men's 110 meter hurdles and four-time World champion Allen Johnson announced his retirement from competition this week. Johnson, a graduate of Lake Braddock High School in Fairfax County, has been one of the top US track & field athletes for years and  one of the sport's well-known figures spanning over nearly two decades competing as a professional now up to the age of 39. Not only has Johnson accomplished a lot on the track, but also made positive contributions off the track as he has also given back to his old high school and contributed money to help build their track facility (named in his honor) and sponsored the Allen Johnson Invitational for many years at Lake Braddock High School. Said former Lake Braddock head coach Bob Digby (1985-2005) of Allen Johnson: "He was always willing to do anything I asked of him, and is the classiest athlete I've ever met. I shared with him how proud I was to be along for the ride the past 15 years since his first World championship in 1995."
