Records Fall At Liberty Last Chance

LYNCHBURG, VA -- At the final indoor meet for the 2004-05 season in the Tolsma Track Center, Liberty's men's and women's track and field teams picked-up 18 victories and set five new school records this afternoon at the Liberty Last Chance.

Leading the way on this record breaking day was Brandon Hoskins (Fr., Garden City, Texas) as he set a school and Big South record in the heptathlon, scoring 5375 points which is also a national qualifier. Hoskins and fellow Flame frosh Josh McDougal (Fr., Peru, N.Y.) both have the #1 top freshman perfomances in the nation this season.

Dan Royal (Sr., Ft. Myers, Fla.) annihilated the oldest school record as he threw 58' 1 ½" in the shot to eclipse Bill Gillespie's record throw of 55'10 ½ " set 23 years ago to the day at the NAIA nationals. Royal also set a new school record in the 35-lb weight throw, tossing 63' 1 ¾".

Caitlyn Sutterfield (So., Murfreesboro, Tenn.) set a school record in the 20-lb. weight throw, throwing 50' 9 ¼", while the Liberty women's 4x800 relay team of Carol Jefferson (Fr., Schwenksville, Pa.), Samantha Pelletier (Sr., Wells, Maine), Sarah Roberts (Fr., Zieglerville, Pa.) and Melissa Blackstone (Sr., Presque Isle, Maine) ran a time of 9:25.31 to establish a new Liberty record.
