KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Virginia Tech\'s Kristen Callan and Spyridon Jullien won Sea Ray Relay titles on Friday, the first day of the meet, at the Tom Black Track on the University of Tennessee campus. Additional Hokie highlights of Friday\'s events include Callan and new NCAA regional qualifier Abbey McGrath breaking their own school records.Kristen Callan (So., Monroe, N.Y.), an NCAA regional qualifier in the hammer throw, won the 2005 Sea Ray Relay hammer throw title with her new school and personal record mark of 197\'8\" (60.25m). Her throw keeps her first in the ACC and moves her to 11th place in the nation.
Tamara Burns (Jr., Elm Creek, Neb.) also PRed (personal record) in the hammer with her third place throw of 186\'3\" (56.78m). Burn\'s throw broke her into the top-30 in the NCAA performance list.
NCAA regional qualifier Spyridon Jullien (Jr., Athens, Greece) won the men\'s hammer throw Sea Ray Relays title with his mark of 228\'3\" (69.58m). Jullien remains the top athlete in the nation throwing the hammer.
Abbey McGrath (So., Burke, Va.) is the newest Hokie to qualify for the NCAA East Regional Championships in the pole vault with her school and personal record jump of 12\'5\'.50\" (3.80m), which gabbed 11th place out of the 30 competitor-field in the event. Teammates Erin Mahony (So., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Jennifer Wade (Jr., Roanoke, Va.) tied for 15th place by clearing 11\'5.75\" (3.50m) while Kim Johnston (Jr., Old Bridge, N.J.) took 20th place.
