As a freshmen at Midlothian running with Foot Locker finalists for teammates in Jason Witt and Michael Hammond as well as another star freshmen in Brayden Burleigh, Darren Barlow (pictured above by John Herzog) was easily overlooked despite running a 16:06 5K at the VHSL State Cross Country Championships to end his first high school cross country season. After suffering a broken ankle to cause him to miss his entire sophomore cross country season and using his junior year to work himself back into shape, Barlow finally beat that 16:06 freshmmen year performance this past weekend to run the state's sixth fastest 5K time and help Midlothian to a runner-up finish at Great American with a 15:40 clocking.
