KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Sven Hahn, a thrower on the Virginia Tech men\'s track & field team, won the shot put event this afternoon at Tennessee\'s Sea Ray Relays held at Tom Black Track. Other Hokie notable performances include the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays recording school season best times and Brian Mondschein moving up into the top-15 in the NCAA in the pole vault.Hahn (Jr., Stutggart, Germany) threw the shot put in an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 58\'6.75\" (17.85m) to capture the win from the five other competitors at the meet. Throwing the shot put, Hahn ranks fourth in the ACC, sixth in the NCAA east region and 23rd overall in the nation with his season best mark of 59\'6.75\" (18.15m).
In the women\'s shot put, Tamara Burns (Jr., Elm Creek, Neb.) placed ninth out of the 20 thrower-field with her mark of 44\'9.75\" (13.66m). Hokie volunteer coach, Cleopatra Borel-Brown, won the women\'s shot put with the ninth best throw in the world (60\'6\"; 18.44m). Borel-Brown is the eighth ranked women\'s shot put athlete in the world according to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
NCAA regional qualifier Brian Mondschein (Jr., Hummelstown, Pa.) grabbed fourth place in the pole vault invitational with his school season best and outdoor personal record height of 17\'4.50\" (5.30m). Mondschein currently ranks first in the ACC, second in the NCAA east region and broke into the top-15 in the NCAA Division I with his mark.
Tech\'s women\'s 4x100-meter relay team of Marie Giles (Sr., Hampton, Va.), Victoria Green (Jr, Chesapeake, Va.), Jackie Nicholson (Sr., Clayton, N.J.) and Shamane Onwudiachi (Sr., Laurel, Md.) ran a school season best time of 47.04, which ranks third in Tech\'s all-time performance list. The ladies finished 17th out of 24 teams in the race.
Giles, Green, Nicholson and Britni Spruill (Fr., Hampton, Va.) ran in Tech\'s 4x400-meter relay team which clocked the second fastest time in school history (3:44.57) on their way to finishing 15th overall in the race.
For the Hokie men, Jason Fludd (Sr., Stafford, Va.), Anthony Jenkins (Sr., Baltimore, Md.), Jordan Price (Fr., Newport New, Va.) and Matt Renninger (Jr., Barto, Pa.) recorded a school season best 4x100-meter relay time with their 14th place finish of 42.11.
In the men\'s 4x400-meter relay, Tech ran the race in 3:18.82 to take 19th place out of the 23 competing teams.
The Hokies next compete against all 11 conference teams in the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning on Thursday, April 21 through Saturday, April 23 in Tallahassee, Fla.
