William & Mary Men Claim Fourth At CAA Championship

Tribe Wins Three Individual Titles

FAIRFAX, VA - Despite a herculean effort by the distance corps, William and Mary men\'s track and field could not hold onto its day one lead and finished fourth at the CAA Championship. With nearly the entire throwing corps redshirting the outdoor season, the Tribe spotted too many points to its opponents and ended the Championship in fourth with 132 points. UNC-Wilmington won the title with 218.50 points, ahead of second-place Virginia Commonwealth (172) and George Mason (140). Three-time All-American Ed Moran (Dayton, NJ) [5,000m], senior Adam Otstot (Richmond, VA) [3,000m steeplechase] and senior Pat Comstock (Portsmouth, VA) [10,000m] all won individual titles on Friday evening as Otstot and Moran earned qualifications to the NCAA Regional meet while Comstock set a CAA meet record with his winning time of 30:44.22.

Today, Moran again led the team with his All-CAA performance in the 1,500m as the graduate student clocked a 3:50.77 for third place, ahead a wealth of scorers in the race. All-American Christo Landry (Falls Church, VA) claimed fourth in 3:51.52, as both he and Moran broke the IC4A standard. Junior Bill Tarantino (Woodbridge, VA) clocked a 3:52.03, a scant three-hundredths of a second off the IC4A barrier, to place fifth. Sophomore Matt Warco (McMurray, PA) timed a 3:52.62 for sixth, ahead of freshman Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, PA) in seventh (3:53.03). The Tribe also had three scorers in the 800m as Warco led the way in fifth at 1:53.23. Junior Graham Kearney (Richmond, VA) took seventh in 1:54.54 while junior Matt Wolak (Richmond, VA) came home eighth in 1:54.90. In the 400m freshman Eric Baker (Montoursville, PA) scored in sixth in with a 48.96, while junior Justin Benabdallah (Natick, MA) timed a 10.99 for eighth in the 100m to score for the team. Also scoring was junior Steve Nichols (Media, PA) who ran to eighth in the 110m hurdles in 15.09. Both of the Tribe's relays scored as the Nichols, Baker, Benabdallah and sophomore Justin Zamorski (Virginia Beach, VA) claimed fifth (43.33) in the 4x100m while Baker, sophomore Steve Gillard (Herndon, VA), freshman David Groff (Centreville, VA) and Wolak teamed for sixth in 3:22.87.

Tribe track and field returns to action at the Penn Relays April 28-30 and at Christopher Newport's Invitational on April 30.
