In the throwing events the night belonged to Royal who took home victories in the shot put (54'1 ¾"), discus throw (171'5) and the hammer throw (180'6) as he accounted for three of the Flames' 12 victories.
Running in his first meet since the Big South Championships due to an injury, Josh McDougal picked up right where he left off as he qualified for the IC4A Championships next week in the 1500m run with a time of 3:49.81. It also marked the first time that McDougal has run in the 1500m.
Picking up Liberty's other two victories on the men's side were Evan Falat (5000m, 14:49.45) and Drew Ponder (10000m, 32:55.80), while Ravanno Ferguson recorded a PR in the 400m dash with a time of 47.32.
On the women's side, six different athletes won events as Danielle McNaney continued her winning ways as she took home first in the javelin, throwing 131'11, a week removed from winning the heptathlon at the Penn Relays.
Also taking home victories were: Danielle Jordan (5000m, 17:50.67), Piper Newby (3000m steeplechase, 11:37.50), Kena Butts (high jump, 5'6), Amiee Riley (pole vault, 11'5 ¾") and Tracy Tyler (41'2 ¼"), while Melissa Blackstone took home second place in the 800m run with a PR of 2:14.81.
About 20 of Liberty's men's and women's track and field athletes will be in action next Thursday thru Saturday as they compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J.
