Cave Spring boys and girls dominate districts

ROANOKE, VA -- Both Cave Spring boys and girls cross country squads won team titles at the Roanoke Valley District Meet with ease. The Knights boys took the first 4 places as they rolled to victory with a total score of 17 points. The Lady Knights placed 6 runners in the top 11 for a impressive showing as they won the district title with 22 points.

It was a great end for seniors Bill Meador of Cave Spring and Sarah Bond of Patrick Henry as they finished their careers in the Roanoke Valley District as district champions.

Meador's only opposition was teammate and fellow senior Mike DeVaughn. The two Knights had a huge lead on the rest of the field at the mile mark as they went through that mark in 4:50. Meador ended up beating teammate Meador roughly around 100 meters with Meador being clocked in a time of 16:17 and DeVaughn in a time of 16:33. This was Meador's second consecutive year as district champion.

For Bond, it was her first district title. She completed the Roanoke College 5K course in a time of 20:27. Leading the Lady Knights to a district title was freshmen Jennifer Beury who finished second in a time of 20:48.
