Tribe Leads After First Day of IC4As

PRINCETON, NJ - Three-time All-American Ed Moran (Dayton, NJ) won the title in the 5,000m as William and Mary men's track and field competed Friday evening on the opening day of the IC4A Outdoor Championships. The Tribe currently leads the team standings with 25 points, seven clear of second place Iona (18). Points are awarded to the top-eight finishers in each event, who receive All-East honors. The prestigious meet, hosted by Princeton, attracts a large field of teams from across the Eastern U. S. and represents the last opportunity for athletes to set NCAA qualification times

Moran, the 2005 CAA 5,000m Champion, added yet another title to his storied collection by clocking a 13:51.78 for a convincing 10-second victory in the event. Running well below the NCAA Regional barrier for the fourth time this season, Moran netted All-East honors with the win. The Tribe saw two runners earn All-East honors in the 10,000m as senior Pat Comstock (Portsmouth, VA) was just six seconds shy of the winning time with his runner-up performance of 30:02.12, a personal record. Steve Hoogland (Springfield, VA) also raced to All-East honors in the event as the sophomore clocked a 30:08.10 for fifth, also a career-fast time. Junior Sean Anastasia-Murphy (Gloucester, MA) claimed All-East honors in the 3,000m steeplechase by shattering his personal best with an 8:59.26, qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in the event. Besting his previous personal record best by over 10 seconds, Anastasia-Murphy finished sixth in the event. Senior Adam Otstot (Richmond, VA), already qualified for the Regionals in the steeplechase, just missed running below the qualification standard with his career-fast pace of 9:08.57, just four-tenths of a second shy of the mark. Sophomore Keith Bechtol (Alexandria, VA), last year's IC4A 10,000m Champion, just missed joining Moran in netting All-East acclaim in the 5,000m as Bechtol timed a 14:22.92 for ninth.

The IC4A Championships continue Saturday and Sunday.
