Mayo hits PR & qualifies for NCAA\'s in ECAC women\'s triple jump

Adrienne Mayo qualified for the NCAA regional meet for the second straight year.

PRINCETON, N.J., May 15, 2005 –- James Madison sophomore Adrienne Mayo (Reston, Va./South Lakes) nailed a career-best jump and placed third in the triple jump at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women\'s Track and Field Championships Sunday at Princeton.

Mayo\'s leap of 40 feet, 9 3/4 inches bettered her existing personal-best of 40\'5 1/2\" and also qualified her for the NCAA East Region Championships for the second year in a row.

Pittsburgh freshman Martina Hallman won the event with a jump of 41\'7\", and Syracuse sophomore Sheron Mark was second with a jump of 41\'6\".

In JMU history only five-time All-America and JMU Sports Hall of Fame inductee Tiombé Hurd has jumped farther than Mayo.

Mayo, junior Nelly Anderson (Charlotte, N.C./Cordillera Academy) (3,000-meter steeplechase) and junior Shannon Saunders (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) (5,000 meters) will represent JMU in the NCAA East Region Championships, scheduled for May 27-28 in Randall\'s Island, N.Y.
