Atlee senior pole vaulter Chris Pillow has made a steady and consistent rise to become the state's top vaulter this year and also join only roughly a dozen vaulters nationally who have cleared over 16 feet during the indoor season. With his 16 foot clearance two weeks ago at St. Christopher's, Pillow joined an elite and small group of four Virginia high school vaulters ever to clear over 16 feet in state indoor history. Under the tutelage of one of Virgina's best vault coaches in Kyle Bishop at Atlee, Pillow has the bar set ahead for himself of greater heights including an outdoor goal clearance of 17 feet. Consistency is hard to find in the pole vault and other technical events, yet Pillow has cleared over 15 feet in every meet this year which is an impressive feat considering even some of the best of vaulters experience a bad day or no height in the event.
