Virginia high school athletes posted personal bests across multiple events during meets held April 20-25.
Zayden Burks (Skyline) ran 11.02 in the 100 meters at the NWD quad meet on April 22, dropping from his previous best of 12.09. The junior placed second among 23 competitors and ranks 90th in Virginia and 29th among state juniors.
Lylah Justice (Wise Central) cleared 5-2 in the high jump at the Empire Ford SWVA Middle School Showcase on April 25, improving from her previous mark of 4-10. The Class of 2030 athlete won the event among 14 competitors, set a school record and ranks 34th in Virginia.
Isabella Gervase (George C. Marshall) clocked 15.97 in the 100 hurdles at the Liberty District meet on April 22, bettering her previous time of 16.80. The junior finished second of 18 competitors and ranks 60th in Virginia and 17th among state juniors. Gervase also ran 1:03.10 in the 400 meters, improving from 1:04.76.
Dakari Ellis (Matoaca) ran 50.06 in the 400 meters at the Dinwiddie Central District Meet on April 22, dropping from his previous best of 54.43 set in April 2026. The junior placed second among 32 competitors and ranks 61st in Virginia and 17th among state juniors. Ellis also clocked 24.38 in the 200 meters, improving from 24.71.
Austin Vlkojan (Prince George) posted 50.49 in the 400 meters at the Dinwiddie Central District Meet on April 22, bettering his previous mark of 54.03 from April 2026. The sophomore finished fifth of 32 competitors and ranks 97th in Virginia and 16th among state sophomores.
Annette McGrath (St. James Academy) ran 23.89 in the 200 meters at the Devin Brewer Invitational on April 25, improving from her previous best of 24.66. The junior won the event among 56 competitors, set a school record and holds the top ranking in Virginia and among state juniors.
Faith Afolabi (Battlefield) clocked 12.69 in the 100 meters at the Patriot Cedar Run Weekday Meet on April 22, dropping from her previous time of 13.21. The senior placed third among 41 competitors and ranks 149th in Virginia and 45th among state seniors.
