VIC Selected to Participate in Chasing Tradition

Online Journal to Give View of the Culture of the Nation's Top Distance Running Programs

(Friday, September 9, 2005 - Bristol, Virginia) - During the week of November 13th - 19th, the Virginia Intermont College (VIC) Cross-Country team will take part in Chasing Tradition, an online journal that will take a behind the scene's look at the culture of the nation's top distance running programs. VIC will be the final installment of the 11-week online journal, which started September 4th from University of Portland.

The online journal has been created by Matt Taylor, a 2000 graduate of Yale University. While at Yale, Matt ran track and cross-country, and has a best time of 8:57 in the 3000m Steeplechase. He will spend this fall season with 11 of the nation's top cross-country programs. For one week each, he'll get an inside look at each program, by running, eating, sleeping, and hanging out with the athletes, getting inside the minds of the most renowned coaches in the country, and feeling the tradition that these programs have used to bring them to the top.

Matt Taylor's week at Virginia Intermont College will be special, as he will be on campus during Championship Week. Matt will travel with the team to the NAIA Cross-Country National Championships, in Louisville, Kentucky, where the Cobras will be looking to defend their 2004 National Championship. Those who visit www.chasingtradition.com will be able to get an inside look at how the NAIA's top running program prepares for nationals.

Along with VIC, Chasing Tradition will stop at the NCAA Division One institutions of Portland, Colorado, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Iona, Dartmouth, William & Mary, and Georgetown, NCAA Division Two school Adams State, and NCAA Division Three school Wisconsin-La Crosse.
