NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- On the fast and flat Newport News Park 5K course, Roanoke Catholic junior Brian Doherty and Bishop Ireton sophomore Jessica Wolfe went on to went Catholic State individual titles with their respective winning times of 15:59 and 19:34.
While Doherty's performance was no help to his team's performance, Wolfe's was vital as her and teammate Claire Conron's 3rd place finishing time of 20:15, helped Bishop Ireton to a second place showing with 66 points. Far ahead of the Bishop Ireton girls, however, was Paul VI who won in impressive fashion as they were able to place their entire top 5 in the top 12 positions for a total score of 37 points.
The Bishop O'Connell boys also won by a wide margin, as they won by 17 points with their total of 53 points. Their win was due mainly in part of having 3 runners place in the top 8 as Dan Antalics (2nd, 16:15), Tim Harkin (4th, 16:46), and Nick Amusu (8th, 17:18) all placed in the top 8.
