McDougal Dominates Stanford Invitational

Stanford, Calif. --
Josh McDougal proved once again why he is one of the most elite runners in the country as he dominated the field at the 32nd annual Stanford Invitational, setting a new course record of 23:24 on the 8k Stanford Golf Course this evening.

The new course record marked McDougal's fifth course record that he has set as a collegiate runner in 11 races. The win also marked the 10th race he has won in 11 tries, finishing 13th at the 2004 NCAA National Cross Country Championships.

However, Josh (So., Peru, N.Y.) was not the only McDougal making noise amongst some of the nations best as his younger brother, Jordan (r-Fr., Peru, N.Y.), picked up his third-consecutive second-place finish (placing second behind Josh in all three races) as he ran 23:46 to help guide Liberty to a fourth place finish.

Also aiding Liberty's efforts were Jarvis Jelen (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Clint Jackson (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) who placed 37th and 42nd with times of 24:53 and 24:59, while Evan Falat (Sr., Stockton, Calif.) rounded out the Flames' scorers with a time of 25:43.

Stanford's men's team placed first overall with 50 points followed by Chico State (66), UC Santa Clara (102), Liberty (131) and California (141) to round out the top five teams.

The Lady Flames had a strong showing as they were paced by Carol Jefferson (So., Schwenksville, Pa.) who placed 26th overall with a time of 22:32. Sophomore's Sarah Roberts (So., Zeiglerville, Pa.) and Danielle Jordan (So., Medford, Ore.) placed 54th and 55th, running the 6k course in a time of 23:07 and 23:10, while Chelsey Swanson (r-Jr., Littleton, Colo.) and Reyna Quiroz (r-So., Canyonville, Ore.) rounded out Liberty's scorers with a 78th - and 94th-place finish in times of 23:36 and 23:48.

Overall the Lady Flames placed 13th win 287 points, while Stanford's women made it a sweep taking the top spot with 31 points. Chico State (136), Portland (155), San Diego State (189) and UC Santa Barbara (193) rounded out the top five finishers.

Both the men's and women's teams will have the next two weeks off before returning to action when they head to Terra Haute, Ind., to participate at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational on October 15.
