The Albemarle boys are continuing to impress as the season winds down. After giving nationally ranked Western Albemarle a scare at the Albemarle Invitational, the Albemarle boys have been on a roll. They easily won their district meet, then went onto to have an impressive showing as well at the regional meet where they placed 3 runners in the top 15 to win the team title with a score of 57 points. They were led by senior James Atchison who took 4th in the race with a time of 16:25.
Other boys squads advancing to the state meet are Woodbridge (67 pts), Cave Spring (79 pts), and Sherando (84 pts).
The Brooke Point girls just obliterated the other girls squads in the region. Placing 3 girls in the top 15, Brooke Point won the regional title by a 66 point margin over runner up Stonewall Jackson with 116 points. Pacing the Brooke Point girls was Colleen Connell as she finished with a time of 19:30, which was good enough for 5th place.
Other girls squads advancing to the state meet are Osbourn (118 pts) and Culpeper (119 pts).
Cave Spring senior Bill Meador outdistanced himself from the rest of the field to win the boys race in a time of 16:03 on the challenging Panorama Farms 5K course. Meador will fighting it out next weekend at states for those spots after race favorite, Alan Webb.
