Clarke County rolls to Region B titles

CHARLOTTEVILLE, VA -- At the Region B Meet, the Clarke County boys simply put on a show in winning the regional title by a low team score of 17 points as the top four finishers in the race were all from Clarke County, while the next three runners for the squad finished within the top ten. Currently the fifth ranked team overall in the state, the Group A powerhouse is looking to prove they do belong to rated among the best teams in the state regardless of school classification at next weekend\'s state meet. The defending Group A state individual champion, Clarke County junior Simon Biddle-Snead won the individual region title with a 16:14 on the Panorama Farms 5K course. Meanwhile, teammates Ben Veilleux (2nd, 16:24), Michael Leonard (3rd, 16:37), and Daniel Callan (4th, 16:53) took the next three places to all go under 17 minutes. Bryan Broy (8th, 17:13), Chris York (9th, 17:20), and Joe Racer (10th, 17:21) all provided extra depth for the squad with All-Region performances.

Qualifying for the state meet out of the most competitive region in Group A behind Clarke County were Nelson County (2nd, 115 pts), Page County (3rd, 131 pts), and Buffalo Gap (4th, 141 pts).

The Group A #1 ranked Clarke County girls (33 pts) also won with ease by 40 point margin with five All-Region performers in Danielle Moyer (3rd, 19:48), Erin Broy (4th, 19:54), Elizabeth Mumaw (5th, 19:58), Sophia Holmes (8th, 20:32), and Tori Neuber (14th, 21:08).

Buffalo Gap\'s Mariah Hagadone was the Region B\'s individual champion with a time of 19:14, while George Mason\'s Susanna Sullivan took runner-up honors in 19:23 to lead her team to a runner-up finish.

The Stonewall Jackson girls (3rd, 121 pts) and Altavista girls (4th, 128 pts) also qualified for the state meet.
