Virginia Intermont Qualifies for NAIA National Cross Country

The NAIA announced this week the teams and individuals qualified for
the
National Cross Country Championships to be held November 19th in
Louisville, KY. Defending national men's team champions Virginia
Intermont College won the Region XII championship last week, ensuring
their birth. VIC swept the top five spots to earn a rare perfect score
and lend support to their #2 national ranking. Freshman Steeve Gabart
was the individual champion. Virginia Intermont harriers who will
possible be among the seven to race at nationals include Gabart, Elkana
Chepsiror (2nd), Pat Marion (3rd), Jeremy Cadle (4th), James Mousseau
(5th), Ondrej Puskar (7th), Ricky Cuevas (8th), Russell Neff (9th),
Matt Neff (11th), Nick Glimsdahl (16th) and Alvin Charles (35th).

Intermont's women's team finished a close second behind #14 ranked
Milligan College, who earned the automatic bid with the win. The Lady
Cobras waited to hear about a possible at-large bid, only to find out
they were the first team not to be selected. However, VIC's top three
women did earn individual births into the championship by virtue of
their region finish. Representing Virginia Intermont will be Teresa
Ayers, regional runner-up; Renata Volf, who finished 3rd, and Amanda
Gorst, who placed 8th.
