Virginia Intermont College's Fernando Cabada hung on to finish fifth at
the U.S.A. 10k Championship held in Mobile, AL this weekend,
out-kicking former US 10k Champion Ryan Kirkpatrick with a time of
29:16. Cabada, the lone college runner in the field, finished nearly a
minute behind winner Dathan Ritzenhein, a 2004 Olympian, and nearly a
minute ahead of Olympian Gabe Jennings in a loaded field.

The race gives Cabada his third top five finish in a U.S.A.
championship
in 2005. In addition to his 10k performance, Cabada took 4th in the
U.S.A. 5k Championships in September and 5th at the U.S. Indoor 3,000m
Championships in March.
