The 13th annual Atlantic Coast Invitational was held on Saturday, June 25th at Lakeland High School in Suffolk. Top high school performances included a 21.97 clocking in the 200 meter dash from state champion Justin Burke of First Colonial, Matoaca freshmen Brianna Hayes clearing 5'6" in the high jump, Clover Hill's Janae Jones reaching out for a near personal best mark of 37'2.50" in the triple jump, Shannon Morton of Indian River winning the 1500 easily in a time of 4:52.17, and Grassfield rising senior Trey Holloway moving quickly through the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.53. Girls Highlights
- 100 Meter Hurdles - Jamesha Richard of Western Branch cleared 'em clean in 15.70 for the gold. Olivia Coopwood of Woodbridge cleared 'em clean in 16.53 for the gold with Devin Mitchell of Western Branch in tow at 16.27
- 100 Meter Dash - Andrea Wright of Indian River drove to a 12.50 to win with Asonya Anderson of Heritage (Newport News) on her heels in 12.49
- 1500 Meter Run - Shannon Morton of Indian River ran a 4:52.17 that earned her the W
- 200 Meter Dash - Chantel Ray of Hampton drove to a 25.66 to win. Jade Gregory of Norview took it home in 26.07, followed by Aireal Grant of Bethel in 26.52, Olivia Coopwood of Woodbridge (26.67)
- 400 Meter Hurdles - Olivia Coopwood of Woodbridge sailed past the barries for a 1:07.52 win and next was Chantel Ray of Hampton (1:09.23)
- 400 Meter Dash - Briana Taliaferro of Landstown smoked a 1:01.50 to win, followed by Olivia Coopwood of Woodbridge in 1:02.01
- 800 Meter Run - Great race for Cassandra Jones of Granby who won in 2:29.35
- Discus - Asia Smith of Highland Springs launched it 117-0.5 to earn the top spot on the podium, followed by: Katrice Barrow of Heritage (Newport News) (100-9.5)
- High Jump - Brianna Hayes of Matoaca High School got over 5-6 in her victory
- Shot Put - Nice toss of 36-11 for the victory
- Triple Jump - Brooklyn Jackson of Meadowbrook hit the sand at 34-0 to win. Janae Jones* of Clover Hill jumped a 37-2.5 in her win
Boys Highlights
- 100 Meter Dash - Marquis Gilchrist of Bayside smoked a 11.43 to win with Rashard McKennelly of Churchland in his shadow at 11.30
- 110 Meter Hurdles - Trey Holloway of Grassfield earned gold in 14.53. Aaron Simpson of Western Branch cleared 'em clean in 15.64 for the gold with Justin Williams of Granby on his heels in 15.69
- 1500 Meter Run - Marquis Worsley of Norview ran a 4:17.31 that earned him the W
- 200 Meter Dash - Justin Burke of First Colonial blazed a 21.97 for the win. Impressive top speed helped Joseph Davis of Landstown win in 22.87 with Darius Vaughan of Indian River in his shadow at 22.82. They were followed by Andre Pickett of Hampton (23.13)
- 400 Meter Hurdles - Antonio Foster of Western Branch cleared 'em clean in 55.89 for the gold. Micah Todd of Manchester earned gold in 59.57 with Christopher Crawford of Western Branch on his heels in 56.64
- 400 Meter Dash - Walter Mitchell of Salem (Virginia Beach) smoked a 50.13 to win and next was Devante Cherry of Western Branch (50.80), Carlton Edwards of Henrico (51.00), Corey Jones ofWestern Branch (51.66), Bre-on Donald of Western Branch (52.03)
- 800 Meter Run - Devon Booker of Churchland hustled to a 2:00.97 win, followed by Douglas Smallwood of I.C. Norcom in 2:02.50
- Long Jump - Andrew Shipp of Western Branch jumped a 21-3 in his win. Josh Marriner of Western Branch hit the sand at 22-1 to win, followed by: Kentory Matthews of Tallwood (21-7.5), Anthony Edwards of Matoaca High School (21-0)
- Shot Put - Ezra Hill of Manchester launched it 48-2 to earn the top spot on the podium
- Triple Jump - Hitting a big 44-2 jump, Dominique Marsh of Booker T. Washington wins, followed by: Taylor Dodson of Churchland (42-1)
