On the same day his teammates took home their second NAIA National
Cross
Country title in Louisville, Ky., Virginia Intermont College's Fernando
Cabada secured his highest finish in a US national championship with
his runner-up performance at the US National Club Cross Country
Championships in Rochester, Ny.

Cabada, and winner Matt Tegankamp, separated themselves from the field
of 309 runners early, making it a two man race. Tegankamp took the
title in the final 800-meters with a time of 29:47 to Cabada's 29:50
over the muddy 10,000-meter course. VIC Teammate Corey Duquette was
22nd at 30:56.

Cabada is now on his way to Japan, representing the US in the
International Chiba Ekiden Relay after securing three other top 5 US
national championship finishes this year, more than any other American.
In March, Cabada finished fifth in the US Indoor Championship
3,000-meters and then finished fourth at the US 5,000m Championship in
September. He then took fifth at the US 10k championships two weeks
ago.
