Doherty and Hamil are "privately" best in the state
Woodberry Forest boys continue reign of domin

WOODBERRY FOREST, VA -- Brian Doherty of Roanoke Cathlic and Hamil of Collegiate both ran superb races on the challenging Woodberry Forest School 5K course, as they both won state titles at the Independent Schools State Cross Country Meet. Doherty has had a breakthrough season with many exceptional races at big invitationals such as his races at the Virginia Tech Invitational and Great American. He finished his year off in style, winning the varsity boys race in 16:19. Finishing 15 seconds behind Doherty at 16:34 was Paul VI senior Paul Costello. Collegiate's Hamil won by an even larger margin of 25 seconds with her clocking of 19:37. Taking second was St. Catherine's Harrison who led her team to the team title as they finished with 54 points. The winning tradition continued for the Woodberry Forest boys as they continued their annual dominance of the rest of the private schools in the state. They won yet another state title with the use of tight pack instead of front runners as they gathered in 119 points.
