2011 was a swift year for the Virginia girls as a total of 7 girls ran in the 17 minute range for 5000 meters and all of them broke 18 minutes on Saturday at Foot Locker South to help Team Virginia finish a close second to Team Florida in the seeded division race. Not only did Sophie Chase (17:06) and Megan Moye (17:11) run two of the faster times in Virginia high school history in Charlotte, but joining them under 18 minutes were Oakton freshmen Allie Klimkiewicz (17:42), Ocean Lakes senior Audrey Batzel (17:43), Millbrook senior Crystal Nelson (17:50), West Springfield sophomore Caroline Alcorta (17:52), and Cave Spring sophomore Katie Fortner (17:54).
