A leaderboard of the top freshmen performers in Virginia so far in the 2011-2012 indoor track & field season as of December 27th. Also links to full freshmen rankings for each event.
MileStat.com's Freshmen of the Year award winners in cross country in Blacksburg's Noah Combs (4:44/9:55) and Oakton's Allie Klimkiewicz (5:10 1600/11:05 3200) are already off to fast starts on the track with the best times for their grade at 1600 and 3200 meters.
Freshmen typically do not excel as much in the technical events (especially boys), which can take time to develop in, but this year appears to be different. Quincy Watts of Ocean Lakes has dipped under 8 seconds in the boys' 55 meter hurdles, Ben Foley of Woodberry Forest has cleared 11 feet in the boys' pole vault, and Carly Feyeraband of Atlee has cleared 5'3" in the boys' high jump.
Western Branch girls already have a pair of future stars in the making in the jumping events between Milan Parks (17'0.75" long jump) and Adetoun Oluwole (36'6" triple jump).
