NCAA D3 Nationals Meet Summaries

Four Virginian collegiate athletes earned All-American honors at this past weekend\'s NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships held at St. Olaf College. Lynchburg College\'s Ryann Holmes (J.R. Tucker HS graduate) and a Christopher Newport University trio of Megan Fogarty (Paul VI HS graduate), Karen Simon (Kellam HS graduate), and Joseph Owens (Warren County HS graduate) all earned All-American honors individually in their respective events.

NORTHFIELD, MN - Several Christopher Newport athletes competed on day two of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at St. Olaf College.

Megan Fogarty, who qualified for the finals of the women\'s mile finished sixth overall with a time of 5:00.14.

Rachael Clark\'s shot put toss of 43\' 1.5\" did not qualify her for the finals.

Rob Rodriguez finished second in his flight in the triple jump with a leap of 45\' 8.5\" to qualify for the finals. He then placed ninth in the finals with a jump of 45\' 9.75\",

Karen Simon qualified for the finals of the 55-meter hurdles Friday, finished the finals in eighth place with a time of 8.44 seconds.

Fogarty, Simon and Joseph Owens all earned All-American honors for their performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Head Coach Louis Johnson was pleased with the performance of his athletes. They showed a lot of class and grace. There is a great deal of promise in the future for these athletes, and we intend to see them reach their promise Coach Johnson went on to say.

NORTHFIELD, MN – Junior Ryan Holmes (Glenn Allen, VA/JR Tucker) earned All-American honors Saturday at the 2006 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by St. Olaf College.

Holmes placed seventh in the triple jump to earn the first All-American accolades of his career. He leaped 46'2.5\" in the finals, as Tony Gregory of Cabrini College won the event with a best jump of 47'11.25\".
