More than any other classification in Virginia, the Group AAA girls will be a fairly wide open battle for the state team title with nearly a handful of teams with a legitimate shot. Five teams in particular with Oakton, Colonial Forge, Lake Braddock, Midlothian, and Ocean Lakes all have their eyes on the prize of being the last team called up on the podium at Great Meadow in November.
The Midlothian girls have won six of the past seven Group AAA state championships, so historically alone the odds would be in their favor. The Lady Trojans, coached by Stan Morgan, will have one of the best front three's in the state between Kara Dickerson and the Johnston sisters, Marie and Kari. All three ran in the 18 minute range for 5K last year with Dickerson leading Midlothian to a state title with a sixth place finish at the state meet as well as a Nike Cross Nationals berth with a fifth place finish in the NXN Southeast Regional.
