Defending Group AAA state indoor 1600 meter champion Logan Miller of Chantilly High School recalls his very first high school race:

"My first race ever was during the first tri-meet of our indoor season my freshman year. It was the 4x800 meter relay at Episcopal. I was on the Chantilly "B" relay with Faris Sakallah, Sushant Bhattarai, and Andrew Chadowski. I got the baton 3rd after a horrible handoff with Faris. During the race I remember I had no idea what I was doing. No other runners were around me but I heard Coach G (Gilchrist) yelling at me to pick it up. My split was 2:45. I didn't know if that was good or bad but I had the fastest split on the relay so I was happy and so were my coaches. Our relay was doing well until Andrew ran 3:20 because he stopped 10 meters before the line and lost lots of time and multiple places.

My first 1600 meter race was a week later. I ran 5:36. Hard work definitely pays off."
