GLEN ALLEN, VA -- Shortened significantly due to inclement weather, there were still noteworthy performances at the Deep Run Invitational in the portion of the meet that was able to be completed before it was called off.
AAA state indoor 1600 meter champion Alex Bowman of Hermitage had an impressive solo effort in the 1600 meter run at Deep Run as he blitzed a time of 4:18.35 to win by 15 seconds over the next finisher in Patrick Henry\'s Davis Barry at 4:33.84.
The 100 meter dash field was stacked with four athletes dipping under 11 seconds in the event with Nottoway\'s Justin Stith leading the way with a winning clocking of 10.83.
J.R. Tucker showed a resurgence in the 4x800 meter relay as the Tigers won in a season best time of 8:11.90. Despite losing two key legs from last year\'s outstanding relay squad in Thuom Mathaing and Michael Chapa, J.R. Tucker appears to have formed a solid relay team once again.
There were two 50 feet plus performances in the shot put with Manchester\'s Ryan Stratis winning with a throw of 50\'10\" and Hermitage\'s Marvin Edison in second at a mark of 50\'4\".
Stonewall Jackson\'s Thelma Breezealt cruised to a win in the 100 meter dash with her 12.19 clocking as Hampton\'s Kristina Champan had the second best time at 12.56.
Chapman was also the winner in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.36 with teammate Alyssa Pickett making it a 1-2 finish for Hampton in a second place clocking of 15.94.
Field hockey converted track star Natalie Davis of Maggie Walker won a close race in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:22.35 as fellow Central Region runners Alicia Grove of Hanover (2nd, 5:23.94) and Amber Yung of Patrick Henry (3rd, 5:23.95) were in close pursuit.
The girls discus saw two of the state\'s best in defending AAA state shot put champion Kathy Howard of Lee-Davis and 2004 AAA state discus champion Jennifer Marinacci of Manchester duke it out. The James Madison University bound Marinacci came out as the winner with a best toss of 127\'6\" with Howard relegated to a second place finish with a mark of 120\'8\".
The girls pole vault was able to somehow be completed despite the poor weather conditions surrounding the area as St. Catherine\'s Carrie Wortham cleared a personal best height of 10\'3\" to win the event.
Lee-Davis junior Rachel Butler, who tied with Patrick Henry\'s Annie Powell at a height of 9\'6\" for second place in the pole vault, won two field events on the day in the high jump at a 5\'4\" clerance and triple jump with a leap of 38\'5.50\".
Not much separated Thomas Dale\'s Tyquan Oxedine and Essex\'s Carter in the long jump as both athletes hit marks of 22\'1.50\" as their next best marks broke the tie giving Oxedine the win.
