Battlefield junior Ellison Grove competed at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic on Thursday at the New York Armory in the invitational 800 meter run. The returning Northwest Region 800 meter outdoor champion with a 2:10 personal best, finished a close second in New York City over winter break behind Garden City's (NJ) Emma Gallagher (2:16.36) with a US #4 performance of 2:16.58. Grove is the current Virginia state leader at 500 meters after running a 1:16.7 hand-held time in an outdoor polar bear meet. She has yet to run the 1000 meter run this season, which she was a regional runner-up to Mountain View graduate Kimberley Ficenec last year with a 3:03 best, but based off her 2:16 indoor 800 meter race, Grove should be able to press for a sub 3 minute time in that event this winter.
