New Richmonders MacPherson & Deak making names for themselves at Villa Jul 28, 2006

The second St. Joseph\'s Villa Summer 5K Series had some surprising race appearances to help bolster the race to have one of its largest turnouts ever. Lisa MacPherson, a recent graduate of Jefferson Forest High School who will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall, won the girls race in a time of 20:48. MacPherson is now a Richmond local as her family moved to nearby Powhatan County this summer. Meanwhile, Ryan Deak, who has won a series of summer 5K races this summer after his family relocated to the Richmond area from Colorado was competing in his third race in six days as he won the Lucy Corr 5K in a scorching time of 14:56 and then broke the Cul De Sac 5K course record in a 15:30 win. On tired legs, Deak ended up placing third in the race in 16:24 behind two former Central Region distance stars in Cary Chaffee (16:13) and Michael Chapa (16:17). Deak was one of the nation\'s top distance runners in high school between years he spent in Florida as well as Colorado and he was also a member of the University of Colorado program. A photo gallery is now posted with more photos coming as well as video clips of the races.
