The Lee-Davis Subvarsity Invitational served as a low key meet for many teams getting in a final meet for some of their developing runners heading into the district championships. However, the varsity girls individual battle was anything but low key with more than a handful of some of the state's better runners battling it out on the Pole Green 5K course. A pack of six was still together till the very end until Tallwood's Octavia Rinehardt and Hanover's Lauren Hopper streaked to the finish line with Rinehardt coming out with a narrow win in 18:50 over Hopper at 18:41. Hopper paced the Hanover girls to a team title over several other Central Region teams hoping to make it out of the regional meet next month. Mark Merritt looked to be in top form at Pole Green as he led his new team at Cosby to the team title with a 16:10 individual win of his own. Can they pull off the impossible again??? The Manhattan Invitational will keep all eyes in Virginia to the north to see how some of Virginia's best teams and individuals fair against the best high school running one can find on the entire East Coast. The Midlothian girls are going back to Van Cortland Park to defend their Eastern States title from a year ago with Blacksburg and Brentsville girls joining them in the race. The top four ranked boys teams in Virginia will also be at Manhattan as well spread out among the different varsity divisions with #1 Oakton, #2 Midlothian, #3 Brentsville, and #4 Blacksburg. Individually look for Peter Dorrell and Jason Witt to run for wins and try to post the fastest times of the day on Vanny's historic 2.5 mile course. Our MileSplit US affiliates in New York and Pennsylvania will be helping to provide coverage of the meet with photos, video, and updates.Meanwhile, plenty of meets to cover just within Virginia as four major invitationals will occur this Saturday in the Albemarle Invitational, Glory Days Grill Invitational, Lee-Davis Subvarsity Invitational, and Runnin With The Wolves Invitational. MileStat.com should have some form of on-site coverage at all four meets.Race videos wanted! Hanover's Lauren Hopper winning the 2007 Lee-Davis Subvarsity Invite in 18:59.While small in size, the Lee-Davis Subvarsity Invitational will have some great quality in a meet which emphasizes the freshmen and sub-varsity divisions with medals going 25 individuals deep in those races versus 10 deep in the varsity races. In particular, several girls could be pushing to go under 19 minutes on the Pole Green Park 5K course in Mechanicsville as cooler temperatures and dry course should cater to fast times. Tallwood's Octavia Rinehardt as the #4 ranked runner in Virginia and coming off a 18:23 5K personal best run on Wednesday leads a handful of fast individuals racing this weekend at Pole Green including Disney Classic winner Lauren Hopper of Hanover, Hagan Stone Park Classic winner Amanda Lineberry of Lee-davis, and one of the state's fastest freshmen in Abby Badura of Clover Hill. The Jamestown boys headline the varsity boys field as the Eagles look to have a better showing in Richmond than they did two weeks ago at the Maymont Festival.
