Madison County --
With the weather at 85 degrees max the runners had to run to win and run to go to regionals next week at Madison Co. Only the top 4 teams go and the top 15 runners advances to go to regionals and it was a good race for all who was there.

Strasburg being the biggest surprise won the boy's race with a score of 60pts. They put 4 runners in the top 15 with John Wilburn leading the way with his runner-up finish with a time of 17:48. The other 3 that placed in the top 15 was Neff(12th,18:49), Watson-Jones(13th, 18:50), and Bockey(14th, 18:52). With that pack, they beat a very competitive field with George Mason who came in 2nd with 67pts. and Brentsville who came in 3rd with 67pts. George Mason won with their 6th man coming in 23 and Brentsville 6th man coming in 32nd. Madison Co. was 4th with a score of 68pts.

The individual who put on a show was, the heavy favorite, Andrew Montgomery from George Mason, who won with a 17:10. During the 1st 2miles, he was being pushed by Maurice Styles from Madison Co. going in at 5:20 first mile and 10:56 2mile. But a great runner that Andrew was he pulled away from Styles after the 2mile split and was by himself after that. Styles died out with 1200 meters to go just hoping to hold off the incoming runners. But Styles couldn't hold off Wilburn but he managed to hold off Baker. Styles came in 3rd with a 18 flat and Ryan Baker from Clarke Co. finished with a 18:11. Brentsville first finisher was Andrew Cheshire(5th, 18:22) and his teammate Kevin Sullivan wasn't too far behind with a 6th place finish with a time of 18:29.

On the girls side, it was just as exciting. It was a battle between the 6 times State Champions and the host Madison Co. During the whole race the lead packs were lead by Brentsville and Madison. Brentsville just had enough to beat Madison with a 38-44 win. George Mason came in 3rd with 72 and Clarke Co. with 90.

Annie Maynard from George Mason won the individual title by running a 20:32, ahead of Leslie Grant(Strasburg) and 2000 State Champ Mindy Peele(Brentsville). Leslie who ran the whole race with a cramp in her stomach placed 2nd with a time of 21 flat and Mindy came in 3rd with a 21:26. The 7 time district champs had 5 girls in the top 15, with Mindy(3rd), Brendle(5th, 22:21), Kitonis(8th, 22:55), Robinson(9th, 22:56), and Sullivan(13th, 23:14). Madison girls did almost the samething but fell short with their 5th runner, by placing 4 in the top 15. Lydia Hastings lead the pack with a 4th place finish of a time of 22:12, Knewstep(6th, 22:22), Pastore(7th, 22:39), and Jessie Pastore little sister Cecil came in 11th with a 23:09. Clarke's top girl Lawrence came in 10th with a 23 flat and Krumich, who was with Lydia Hastings majority of the race, finished in at 15th of a time of 23:27. Krumich dropped about 800meters from the finish of leg problems but managed to bring home a medal and to continue to run next week at regionals which will be at Madison Co.
